Term 1 Holiday Maths No.6

In parking meters downtown, you can get 15 minutes parking for 50c
Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm
At what time did the parking meter expire?
Dad put $3.50 into the parking meter at 3.15pm
50c x 4   = $2 = 1h
50c x 3 = $1.50 = 45m
My answer has to be 1:45 because 50c x 4  = $2 and $2 = to 1h. There is $1.50 remaining. I know 1 dollar equals to 30m and 50c equals to 15m. And if we add all of them up together, I will get 1h and 43m.

Term 1 Holiday Maths No.3

3. Lollies, lollies, lollies
On Monday, Sam, Sonny and Sylvia share some lollies that they've been given.
Sonny was given twice as many lollies as Sam.
Sylvia was given three times as many lollies as Sam.
They are given the same number of lollies each day up to (and including) Friday.
If Sylvia got a total of 18 lollies on Tuesday and Wednesday, how many lollies did
Sonny get for the whole five days? How many lollies would Sam need to get on
Saturday if he wanted to have 39 lollies
altogether?

if Sylvia got 18 lollies on Wednesday, then he must have got 6 lollies on Monday.
⅓ of 6 is 2. So sam must have got 2 lollies on Monday. And if Sam got 2 lollies,
then sonny must have got 4 lollies. 2. Sonny will get 16 lollies by the end of Friday
because of
4x4= 16. .3. My answer has to be 6 because of 6 x 6= 36 and 36 is the

closest number to 39.

Volleyball

Volleyball
By Siosaia

On Wednesday 10th of April, 2019, Glenbrae school participated in volleyball with other schools
in the Tamaki Cluster. There were eight schools participating in the Volleyball tournament and
3 different year groups in each school.

When we arrived at the tournament, We found a spot in the stadium for our school to sit. A
few minutes later, the year 8 group had their first game against Tamaki Primary. In the
beginning of the match, We were a bit nervous to hit the ball so we let the ball hit the ground
a few times . A few minutes later, our teacher started screaming at us to hit the ball over the net.
It took us a while to get used to hitting the ball and when we did, we gained some points for our team.
We kept on getting points for our team until our team won against Tamaki primary.

We went back to our spot in the stadium and had something to eat. Roughly 30 minutes later,
we had our next game against Stonefields. In the beginning, we were losing because they were
serving first and we were to scared to hit the ball back. Fortunately, a person from the opponent
team messed up their serve and When we served, They were too scared to hit the ball, but when
they did, the ball mostly goes out. We won that match as well.

Another 30 minutes later, we had our third game against Point England. If we won that game,
we would be in the finals, so we were a bit nervous to play against our opponent. Their team
was easy so when we got a lot of points, we started to play around a bit. They Started to catch
up so we had to play seriously again. We won that match and our team was in the finals.

After the game, our team decided to go outside and practices our spike serves, spiking,
digging and setting for about 20 minutes. We went back inside and found out who we
are versing. We were going to play against Glen Innes school. Glen Innes school was the
best in volleyball out of all of the schools in the Tamaki cluster. 20 Minutes later, it was
time for our school to play against Glen Innes school. When we served, they already started
to set up for a spike. In the beginning, they started making way more points than us. We made
a few points but it wasn’t enough to catch up with the opponent team. A few minutes later,
we had to switch sides. On the next half, we started to play better and get more points for our
team. When the game finished,
the results was a tie.

We had to do overtime and whoever team makes 10 points first, wins. The opponent was
playing extra hard to win. We started to pick up our games as well. But unfortunately, they
kept making more points than us. When they had about 7 or 8 points, we started to spike a lot,
which gave us a few more points. There we were. We both were on 9 points each. It was our
turn to serve. The ball went over the net but the opponent team failed to hit the ball back.
We won that match and also came first out of all of the schools.

It was a fun experiences for me and I enjoyed every bit of my adventure. My favorite part of
my trip is the part where we won the finals and came first out of all the schools in the Tamaki
cluster and when we had morning tea and lunch.
